New UKATA Asbestos Awareness eLearning Course

We’re excited to launch our UKATA Asbestos Awareness eLearning course, designed to help employers and employees alike understand and manage asbestos risks in the workplace.

Asbestos remains one of the most significant occupational health hazards in the UK. Despite being banned for more than two decades, asbestos-containing materials are still present in many buildings. Knowing how to recognise and manage asbestos safely is not just best practice, it’s a legal requirement under HSE regulations.

Our UKATA Asbestos Awareness course is aimed at all levels of employees who may undertake or plan work that is carried out in buildings and premises or manage buildings and premises. The course provides the essential knowledge needed to recognise asbestos risks, work safely, and stay compliant. By completing our UKATA Asbestos Awareness course, you’ll:

  • Understand the dangers of asbestos exposure and its health effects.
  • Be aware of the types, uses, and likely locations of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs).
  • Know how to recognise and avoid risks when asbestos may be present.
  • Understand the emergency procedures to follow if asbestos is accidentally disturbed.
  • Appreciate your legal responsibilities under current health and safety legislation.
  • Gain the knowledge required to work safely and compliantly in environments where asbestos could be encountered.

That’s not all

To complement the eLearning course, we’ve also launched our Asbestos Compliance Guide — a free resource for anyone responsible for maintaining or managing buildings. The guide outlines your legal duties, practical steps to stay compliant, and the key actions to take when asbestos is found or suspected.
